Smart Growth
Smart Growth is a catch-all term for a variety of practices that lead to a more sustainable way of life for cities and towns, focusing on working, living, shopping, and recreating within a fairly small geographic area.  Artemel & Associates is currently evaluating the proposed Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan in Alexandria, Virginia for its compatibility with Smart Growth principles.  We studied urban form in Istanbul, Turkey and several cities in France and elsewhere in Europe to identify characteristics that can be adapted to the US environment and formulate approaches to adapting the urban experience overseas to US cities.

Our projects involving the principles and elements of Smart Growth have included:

  • Eisenhower West
  • Braddock Gateway
  • ADAM
  • Old Town North Community Partnership
  • ULI Technical Assistance Panel, San Bernardino
